Resort Island
Working as Isolée, German producer Rajko Müller defined an entire genre – microhouse – with one single, 1998’s “Beau Mot Plage,” before going on to release three albums of increasingly lush complexity (2000’s Rest, 2005’s We Are Monster, 2011’s Well Spent Youth). Resort Island appears twelve years later: that gap is not a big deal in dance music, admittedly, but it did seem a little remiss for someone who excels at the full-length album. Resort Island initially comes off a little too streamlined, but its brevity marks eloquence, and Müller builds playful, pliable sensuality into these ten tracks, too. The skippy melodies of “Pardon My French” point toward filter disco; the following “Con O Sin” spins a simple phrase around a hall of delays; “Rumour” is lush and lithe. Resort Island is stealthy in its ability to caress your ears.
