Road To the Jungle
Kwaku DMC has been making music for over ten years, and he’s now the biggest player in Ghana’s Asakaa drill sound — the mix of drill baselines, rap, and Twi lyrics. He even counted Virgil Abloh among his fans after catching his attention with his feature on Jay Bahd’s track “Suzy”. On Road to the Jungle he shines a spotlight on the Kumasi scene, lifting up some lesser known artists from his community on the claustrophobic “Allah.” Though there are plenty of dark beats and ominous atmospheres across the record, Kwaku incorporates jazzy riffs, RnB vocals, melancholic string arrangements and stirring choral voices, as he tells stories about his life and reflects on society, conformism, and freedom with his typically smooth, focused delivery.
