While the monumental Substance, with its focus on the 12” versions of singles from their first few years, remained a key document, by the mid 2000s New Order had accumulated enough further notable songs to warrant a more up-to-date overview of their back catalog. The two-disc Singles, starting with the original version of “Ceremony” and ranging through singles from the Waiting for the Sirens’ Call album, focused more on 7” and radio edits, often memorable in their own right, to result in a comprehensive summation of their electronic dance/rock excellence.
