Divine Styler’s 1992 album remains one of the most unexpected major label hip-hop releases of that era, with a sound and thematic approach that feels like it should have been released years in the future by any number of underground acts. Stylistically touching on everything from almost arrhythmic, staccato deliveries with music to match to genteel acoustic guitar ballads and uplifting jams, much of it built around praise to Allah, it remains a varied, mysterious masterpiece.
