The second album for Innode, the project of Austrian electronics musician Stefan Németh, doubles down on the intensity of its predecessor, Gridshifter. Németh’s history takes in membership of the electro-acoustic post-rock trio Radian; there are still shades of their tight, interlocking constructions here, but Innode is more about the grit between the joins. The electronics are so sharp and luminous, you’re plugged directly into the mains socket; the rhythms, often played live in the studio by Steven Hess and/or Bernhard Breuer, are tight but not inhuman. Things here breathe a little more, the energy is more human, even as the prescribed soundworld veers towards the claustrophobic.
