Following the smash success of “Ride a White Swan,” the self-titled T. Rex ‘debut’ album, at least in terms of a formal name, remains a remarkable transitional listen, at once a last winsome gambol through folky ways and a further gearing up of Marc Bolan’s ability to weld classic 50s rock and roll guitar lines to his own charisma and lyrical muse. Songs like “Suneye” and the brilliantly titled “The Time of Love is Now” have that earlier feel, while the giddy electric crunch of “Jewel,” which really should have been a single, easily pointed to the future.
