The Imprecation of Anima

Making a clear mark in the field of lengthy, often rampaging psych/droned & zoned jams can be a little hard after a half-century plus of that kind of underground madness worldwide, but the UK based Codex Serafini gives it an energetic go on their 2023 debut full-length following two initial EPs. From the opening “Manzareck’s Secret,” where saxophone and echo-laden Geddy Lee-ish vocals play as much a part as monstrous swells of guitar, the swathed-in-anonymity group range from head-nodding groove on “Mujer Espiritu” to the epic build of “Animus in Decay.”
