The Second Album

The second album from The Spencer Davis Group was, like many of their peers’, mostly made up of blues and R’n’B covers. What the SDG had that their peers lacked were the outstanding ‘blue-eyed-soul’ vocals and keyboard chops of Steve Winwood. ‘Look Away’ with its gospel-flavoured backing vocals and their most well-known track ‘Keep On Running’ are both quality soul-flavoured beat tracks and their versions of The Impressions’ ‘You Must Believe’ and the classic ‘Georgia On My Mind’ have a nice hybrid UK/US flavour. A soulful take on the UK mid-sixties beat sound.
