Time Capsule
Released
British jazz in the Nineties was something else, too voracious and crass to fly with Americans, who can’t get over their own addiction to authenticity. Bowden and Courtney Pine were the momentarily superstar faces of a hybrid that already had a purpose—movie soundtracks, which is hardly a disrespectful conclusion. You could make a case (like right here) that Bowden’s Time Capsule and Tortoise’s TNT were the two great denatured jazz concept albums of the Nineties, which would be a fancy way of saying Bowden loves to switch styles and his band can play their collective ass off.
