Not a lot of concept albums based around obscure seventies sci-fi tabletop role-playing games, but leave it to idiosyncratic Bay Area atavists The Lord Weird Slough Feg to tell the story of a space pirate turned into a half man-half dog who leads a race of mutants in a war against the human race. Or something. They borrow a little Celtic magic from Thin Lizzy, some fancy footwork from Brocas Helm, and some ferrous muscle from Iron Maiden to create a sound all their own. From the nimble asteroid-dodging of “High Passage/Low Passage” to the time signature-splicing of “Gene-ocide,” these players roll nat 20’s the whole way.
