Released the same day as Microcastle and intended to be a surprise to the retail customers (dashed by an accidental self-breach of Mediafire security; it was 2008, we really didn’t know how the internet worked), Weird Era Cont. is a self-described “old and haunted” counterpart to Microcastle’s leaner jams. The songs rock harder and the vocals sound ghostlier. As a result of the band members individually composing and recording their own songs, there’s far more empty space for the spirits to roam ‘round in. The sun peeks through the cracks in the ceilings, but what it illuminates might not look right in the light. But oh what a visit.
