Brahms: Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77

Jascha Heifetz’s violin playing was technical, almost ruthless, but his sound was so vivid and alive that he is hard to classify. This is an excellent fit for Brahms, whose music often combines forbidding architecture and kinetic passion. This reading of the Violin Concerto is consistently riveting, an imperious performance that never loses its humanity.
