Bridge Of Light

The title of every album on ECM dedicated to Keith Jarrett’s classical pieces has something to do with light, and the last entry in this loosely allied series is no exception. In the brilliant Michelle Makarski, he has found a sympathetic interpreter for his Elegy for Violin and String Orchestra and Sonata for Violin and Piano, both of which prove his maturation as a composer. Likewise the Adagio for Oboe and String Orchestra (with Marcia Butler as soloist) and the title work for viola (Patricia McCarty) and orchestra, each an interlocking piece of architectural lucidity.
