Drokk: Music Inspired by Mega-City One
Released
Lots of alternate soundtracks to movies out there, but very few of them come with the pedigree offered by Portishead’s Geoff Barrow and film composer Ben Salisbury (Ex Machina, Free Fire). This love letter to John Carpenter was originally meant to be the score to Pete Travis’s kick-ass 2012 Dredd film. Instead, it got left on the editing room floor and subsequently released as its own thing. While the score used for the movie was still good, DROKK stands on its own as an exceptionally moody piece of synth-craft. The sense of dread (get it?) created by the minimalist keyboards and clanking beats fits the post-post-apocalyptic setting of Mega City One and its surrounding wasteland perfectly.
