The perils of early year-end list-making become abundantly clear with items like this one. Laurent Garnier is a Parisian techno OG, and like a number of his 90s-bred peers he made himself newly anonymous for a recent project—in December 2018, he and Scan X co-founded the label Cod3 QR without revealing themselves for a few years. That imprint’s output, as wizzy-wow as any turn-of-the-90s rave but with a production depth quite beyond anyone’s reach back then, provides much of the material on Garnier’s edition of the EPM Podcast. Because the mix was issued on December 16, 2021, it won’t make very many end-of-year lists. Too bad, because it trounces any other techno set I’ve heard this year.
