Electronic Explorations 367
A golden rule: DJs can, do, and should play anything under the sun. For this April 2015 set, Clap! Clap!, Italy’s Digi G’Alessio (not to be confused with the Dutch EDM producer Alesso, briefly signed to Def Jam) explored a wide range of styles that can’t be reduced to the “tropical” label then spreading across the festival-dance sphere. Instead, he digs up an ultra-rarity from Orquestra Afro-Brasileira and introduces to the dance canon two cuts from the great Nigerian bandleader Sir Victor Uwaifo. The whole thing clocks in at a tidy thirty-four minutes.
