Nothing went right commercially for Sinéad O’Connor after splitting the Pope’s picture in half on Saturday Night Live in ’92. But Universal Mother (1994), Gospel Oak (1997) and this final full-blown shot at the pop chart all deserve reassessment. Eurythmics’ David Stewart, Wyclef Jean, Brian Eno and other producers brought their A-game to her spiritual, introspective fifth album: the heartbreaking “Hold Back the Night,” a plaintive cover of “Kyrié Eléison,” the heart-on-the-sleeve standout, “Jealous,” etc.
