Gone To Earth

David Sylvian

1986
Virgin

Sylvian’s second full solo album was a quietly stunning claiming of space in terms of art-rock prominence. At once a glossy and elegant easy listening album — “Silver Moon,” the album‘s second single, flows with a calm late night jazz bar feeling, Sylvian delivering one of his easiest singing performances — and a deft exploration of sonic textures, unusual tempos and in its second half nothing but pure ambient compositions, Gone to Earth helped fully establish Sylvian’s reputation beyond the era of Japan.
