In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

Released

This psych storm remains notable mostly for side two’s endless traipse through Adam and Eve’s old stomping ground, one of the sixties’ most unlikely hits. And as cliche and overplayed as it became in the lifetime since its release, it’s still a stunning work, shaking the stained glass out of its frame and paving the way for any number of prog epics. The rest contains slightly more prosaic Doors-y organ-driven rock, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad — for one thing, no Jim Morrison reptile poetry. “Most Anything You Want” and “Are You Happy,” which open and close the side, show they didn’t need eighteen minutes to reach heaven.
