While famed for its truly indulgent and none-more-hippie-folk full title, the 1968 debut album by Tyrannosaurus Rex is a remarkable artifact in and of itself, the first full creative full length effort by Marc Bolan after various solo and collaborative one-off efforts. With founding partner Steve Peregrin Took handling backing vocals and a quick, engaging way around percussion, Bolan peeled off one quaveringly-sung and uniquely catchy brisk strum after another, mixing rock and roll efforts like “Hot Rod Mama” with odd trips like “Strange Orchestras” and “Scenescof.”
