By their fifth album, it should’ve been easy to write off The Black Dahlia Murder as a melodeath act with impressive consistency but no desire to level up. Well, whoever (or whatever) they summoned with this ritual proved that sentiment wrong. A serious improvement/refinement/revitalization of their sound, everything here just clicks into one seriously mean master class in how to death metal.
