While Sonic Boom had already recorded and released a solo album during the run of Spacemen 3 called Spectrum, Soul Kiss was the actual debut of Spectrum itself, seen as the counterbalancing band to Jason Pierce’s Spiritualized. Later releases would show that it was less a band than simply a name for Sonic Boom to use in any number of ways, including solo, but Soul Kiss remains a strong effort in and of itself, continuing the more ragged edge of the older group on such blown out songs like its great leadoff track, “How You Satisfy Me.”
