Time Being

The moment “Terraces” works its way into the ear, you trust in all that follows. So begins one of the finest dates from drummer Peter Erskine’s trio with pianist John Taylor and bassist Palle Danielsson. Taylor’s playing makes this album sing, lending shadow and sparkle in equal measure to “If Only I Had Known” (an Erskine original) and “Page 172” (from Taylor’s pen). Given that they share the same canvas, Danielsson and Erskine paint in a complementary style, making for an image that, while fragmentary, anoints a deeper whole.
