És Pregunta

Released

On their latest album És pregunta, Catalan duo Helena Ros and Marta Torrella blend Mediterranean folk traditions with contemporary electronic experimentation, using the latter to draw out the ritualistic, hypnotic elements that are already woven into various polyphonic traditions. Singing in Catalan, Italian, Greek, Latin, English, and even Ladino, Tarta Relena treat language almost as an instrument, shaping their soundscapes and infusing their songs with vivid, evocative imagery. Their voices are deconstructed, chopped, looped, and reassembled, becoming integral to the music’s shifting atmospheres, which move between haunting and sacred. While their vocals are at the very heart of their compositions, Tarta Relena also use moments of silence and stillness to create a sense of expansiveness, highlighting the power of what remains unspoken.
