Archaic Concerts
Released
Archaic Concerts is ostensibly the first solo album from multi-instrumentalist Stephan Micus. It features two pieces averaging 18 minutes each. The first is for gender (a Balinese metallophone), shakuhachi, and zither, and creates a scintillating space in which to wander. The second is for angklung (an array of bamboo tubes used in Javanese gamelan), acoustic guitar, rabab (Afghani lute), and zither. It shifts between some of Micus’s most spirited playing and also some of his most intimate. The genuine nature of these assemblies is proof that his roots run deeper than the leaves he has shared from the start.
