Data X Press Vol.1

Released

Named after Casablanca’s biggest train station, Casa Voyager is one of the most prominent labels in the Moroccan underground scene, and has acted as an international springboard for many local producers while also working with international artists who in different ways embody the label’s roots and influences — particularly the Kraftwerk influenced sounds of Detroit techno. That’s mostly the vibe on compilation Data X Press Vol.1: Computer People, even though Global Warming’s “Hello” intro, with its jazzy keys and hazy synth mads, might give you a different idea. There are darker moments, like Moroccan producer Kempterton’s industrial, spiraling “TnA,” but a funky, groovy bounce runs through most of it, like “One More Time” by OCB and Detroit’s Finest and Cairo-based producer Hassan Abou Alam’s track “N+B.” A great little taster for what this label has to offer.
