El Bueno y El Malo

The title of the album is a clear nod to the evocative style of Ennio Morricone, exemplified by his score for Sergio Leone’s 1966 film “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.” Hermanos Gutiérrez’s music has all of the cinematic qualities of Morricone’s original, conjuring vivid images of wide open spaces bathed in a slightly hallucinogenic light. The two brother’s playing has a loose, improvisational feel to it, yet it’s extremely precise: the way their guitars intertwine almost telepathically, the way they maintain a tight rhythm but leave enough space for the groove to unfold as each track bleeds into the other. It’s the kind of album that you can have on in the background, but still has all the emotional punch to resonate deeply.
