Even if the idea of hanging in Black Rock Desert, Nevada, with air-conditioned campers full of preening tech-bros in 2015 sounds like your idea of hell, you’ve got to give it up for San Francisco native Scott Hansen’s early-dawn selection. Of course it’s obvious: In this setting, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Jon Hopkins, and Jamie xx might as well be a classic-rock station spinning Zeppelin and the Stones. But the way he builds to them is a model of the form, and for a producer with so much material of his own, leaving himself till last is still gratifyingly modest.
