Broadcast on BBC Radio 1 on May 29, 2021, this commandingly demonstrates house’s sheer uplift potential, with a fair number of lulls that, in this company, seem like rest stops more than mere lagging. This is real choir singing, hardly rare in dance music but, at least in my listening, never a focus of DJ sets (though I’m happy to be proven wrong). I figure that since a lot of people get pieces of this set, those lags are the result of doing things by committee. Art is tricky that way. But this isn’t just art, it’s church—Black church—and the difference matters.
