Precious few original gimmicks out there, but English metal proselytizers Wytch Hazel landed on a good one: they claim to be a New Wave of British Heavy Metal band if that movement had occurred during the Crusades. So, lots of lyrics about Jesus, but largely imploring him to give them the strength to fight the infidels or possibly literal demons. Context is key. So’s the group’s knack for insane power chord-fueled hooks. There are certainly worse songs to ride into holy battle to than “He Is the Fight,” “I Am Redeemed,” and the mightiest hymn to the Almighty of all, “Spirit and Fire.”
