Jakarta Radio 009: Somali Disco Mix—“Au Revoir, Mogadishu”

Don’t come to this Horn of Africa cornucopia, uploaded in August of 2015, expecting smooth segues or expert blends—it’s more a radio set than a dance one, and in fact originated as part of a cassette mix that got digitized earlier in the summer before Cologne’s Jakarta Records put it on their ear-opening podcast series. But the way it bumps, wiggles, grooves, and zones out has enormous appeal—and near the end, there’s Dur-Dur Band’s “Ethiopian Girl,” either a modified cover or the original version of Londonbeat’s eternal “I’ve Been Thinking About You,” whose guitar peal I’d always pegged as being closer to the Congo.
