Live at Weather Festival, Paris
Robert Hood has been maybe the most consistent producer in techno from the nineties forward, but the arrival of this set — nearly an essay on dance music’s healing power — in the midst of a month, June of 2015, full of real-world horror, it felt as timely as Kendrick or D’Angelo. Gospel is a motif (it opens with Sounds of Blackness’s “The Pressure”) but there’s as much of the urgent techno of Hood’s birth-name stuff as there is the cubist disco of his Floorplan guise. The pacing is first-rate — delicious set-ups followed by one well-placed bomb after another. The YouTube clip is now up to nearly 465,000 viewings.
