Chillin FM—1991

The sound of kids making it up as they go. The ingredients preceded them—house piano riffs were five years established by then, snippets of “All right!”s running alongside drum loops just as long, but with an infrared glow that irradiates this half-hour you-are-there snapshot. The quicker BPM was also part of it: “Uplifting music on the weekend!” Anton says halfway through, “See you in the morning, London!” He’s chipper and professional; the music is shading into hardcore with sudden thuggish bass skullduggery and ripping breaks. House is being left behind; techno is becoming a core ingredient; jungle is around the corner.
