Rinse FM (April 2008)

The vagaries of the cloud: At the end of 2008, FACT Magazine listed its Top 20 mixes of the year; at the top was Appleblim’s two-hour set from that April. The second half was then-unreleased tracks by Ramadanman, Komonazmuk, Martyn, and Geiom, which would become firm favorites of late-2000s UK dubstep; hour one was a college radio-style mixtape: Beach Boys and Bill Conti, 2 Bad Mice and Alice Coltrane, eclectic in the post-file-sharing, post-Pitchfork manner. It’s truly definitive. He hyped it on message boards himself. And then … it disappeared. The FACT list disappeared; I have it somewhere because I copy-pasted it onto a Word doc. The mix disappeared; SoundCloud was only a year old when Appleblim played this set, and Rinse’s constant churn of new shows make things easy to lose. So I re-uploaded it to Mixcloud. You’re welcome.
