Hot on the heels of fellow seventies burnouts Aerosmith’s miraculous return to the charts, Alice Cooper hired their Permanent Vacation tour guide Desmond Child and performed his own resurrection. Raw-throated toxic relationship ode “Poison” even eclipsed “School’s Out” on the charts and in Spotify spins. It’s definitely of its time — probably his most hair metal effort ever. It still has Cooper’s wry humor, especially on “This Maniac’s in Love with You” and the Aerosmith-guesting Aerosmith-alike title track. “Bed of Nails” (later covered by melodeathers Children of Bodom) is the diamond in the rough, a BDSM ballad that’s both romantic and creepy in equal measure.
