Starting as a guitar-driven post rock band, Sunset Images mutated into an acid-damaged outfit ready to experiment with noise on their debut full-length. Traumatismo Nacional explores timely socio-political commentary while keeping the sonic textures to the fore. Distortion patiently ramps up into ecstasy on opener “Monumento,” while tracks like “Prohibición” hammer out headbanging riffs that can induce a state of trance. Droning “Anestesia” brings a different pace to the album while doomy “Túnel Hacia El Abismo” masterfully plays with space before hectic tempos are kicked into overdrive.
