Heavy Rocks (2022)

Boris

2022
Relapse Records

Their third album by this name, it’s safe to assume at this point that Boris aren’t referring to massive stones. After careening all over the experimental rock map with their last few releases, the Japanese trio return to what they do best: kicking out the jams, allowing them back in, and then kicking them out again. Unlike previous Heavy Rocks, they stick to the core members here. The intense combination of punk, metal, and J-garage rock they cram through their amplifiers feels utterly unhinged, like the whole thing could fall apart at any second, but they have everything under control. Careful, though: those controls are set straight for the heart of the sun.
